(Dan Tri) – US Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Biegun emphasized that the major transformation in Vietnam – US relations is the result of the courage, determination and vision of many individuals from both sides.

Speaking at an online ceremony organized by the Vietnamese Embassy in the US on July 28 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the US, US Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Biegun emphasized the major change in the relationship.

`The US and Vietnam have frankly looked at the past, resolved the remnants responsibly and turned disagreements into areas where the two sides can collaborate,` Mr. Biegun said.

According to the US Deputy Secretary of State, the two countries’ coordination in treating dioxin pollution, clearing unexploded ordnance and assisting people with disabilities in Vietnam has helped strengthen the partnership.

The US Deputy Secretary of State said the relationship between the two peoples has also significantly strengthened.

Build trust

Deputy Minister Biegun said that the two countries have significantly expanded their trade relations, in which bilateral trade has grown from almost nothing in 1995 to 77 billion USD today.

In addition, the two countries have also built trust between the two military forces.

Today, the two countries’ common vision of the region, expressed through the Indo-Pacific vision as well as the ASEAN Vision on the Indo-Pacific, are reinforcing each other.
