The relationship between Tom Ford and Richard Buckley is probably one of the most beautiful love stories in the fashion world of the 21st century. The two first met when Tom was only 25 years old, working as an assistant for fashion designer Cathy.
Richard was immediately captivated by the unnamed boy’s charm, and Tom admitted: `He seemed confident and coldly handsome.
Their first date took place at a popular restaurant when Richard sat and watched Tom talk endlessly about his dream of becoming famous: `In 10 years I will launch my first collection in Paris.`
The storm arose when three years later Richard faced nasopharyngeal cancer and had only a 35% chance of survival.
It was not easy for Tom to enter the fashion world, although those who have worked with him acknowledge Tom’s ability and agility.
Finally, the creative director of Gucci at that time, Dawn Mello, agreed to give Tom a pilot project and saw the young man’s potential and then confidently gave him a design job with Gucci in Milan.
The achievements that Tom Ford has achieved up to now are thanks to his talent and hard work and above all thanks to his 26-year-long lasting love with Richard.
To this day, they still keep the habit of exchanging loving words every night before going to bed, at the end of every phone call or email.
